MORE
ABOUT US
We are SSAIB Registered
Installers for Intruder Alarms and CCTV
Our business is built
on trust and recommendations from satisfied customers
We've
Evolved....for the BETTER
Having been
in business for over thirty years, some changes are to be expected.
Keeping up with the advances in technology is the easily anticipated
part but not all changes are 'according to plan', some just creep up
on you and some are forced on you for better or worse. Not so long
ago, we were regularly travelling across a wide area of the UK, even
into Scotland. We didn't set out to do this, the area covered
expanded in response to our clients needs. The rising cost of fuel
and the dramatic rise in travelling times began to render this
uneconomical. At the same time, take-overs and down sizing of some of
the companies we were dealing with reduced the level of work.
With so much
time spent out of Wales we were neglecting the potential for
increasing our customer base locally. We took the concious decision
to move away from all the travelling and concentrate on promoting our
company within Wales and winning more customers locally. We have
achieved this quite successfully and it has helped us to reduce our
overheads. We purchased the premises we had occupied since 1980 which
were then demolished to make way for our custom built showroom,
office and workshop facilities in order to prepare us for the next
thirty years!
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Specifying
security systems is a responsability that should be taken very
seriously indeed. However, like any service industry, electronic
security has its fair share of cowboys and incompetents. There are
also those who should know better but specify less effective systems
where their interest in security lies solely in their motivation for
profit and perhaps their own career advancement. So if you're looking
for security, tread very carefully, check the facts and read the
smallprint before you sign anything. A low outlay might seem
attractive but it might be followed with high on-going costs.
After sales
service is seen as the 'cash cow' by many installation companies. The
need for systems to be covered by a maintenance contract for
compliance with standards and insurers insistance can leave the
custmer vulnerable. For example, you think you might have a problem
with your system or you are unsure how to retrieve information or
change a code. You ring the company to ask fo help and you can only
speak to a call centre. Yes, they can send an engineer but otherwise
they can't help you. How frustrating, all you want is the answer to a
simple question, just a little guidance on using the system. Well
your paying enough in maintenance so you agree they should send an
engineer. When he arrives he tells you you are pushing the wrong
button. He's gone in a few minutes and you receive a (rather large)
bill because it is 'user error'. Costly mistake for you, very
profitable for the company.
A BETTER WAY
We are
different because we do not see a phone call seeking help as a reason
to book a call. We always enquire what the problem is to see if it
can be resolved without the cost of an engineer calling. We will even
arrange for an enginner to phone you back if there isn't one
available to speak to you at the time.

VISTA VIPS CAMERAS A HIT AT LOCAL SCHOOL
- Tonyrefail Comprehensive
School are delighted with their new CCTV system. Having had CCTV for
many years, apart from reliability and service and repair issues, the
major down side was scene illumination for night time viewing. The
infra red lighting was proving to be inadequate and expensive to run.
Having carefully assessed the situation and the specific requirement
for night time viewing we specified the new Vista VIPS (which stands
for Vista Integrated Positioning System) cameras and arranged an on
site demonstration in conjunction with the manufacturers.
- Other installers were
recommending the more conventional dome cameras but in order to be
able to achieve adequate scene illumination it would have been
necessary to provide infrared lighting for the entire area in line of
site with each camera which would be costly to install and run.
- The Vista VIPS Camera
addresses these issues. Its integral twin pod infrared LEDs
provide illumination for the area the camera is looking at and with a
range of up to 150 metres they perform very well with low power
consumption and the associated running costs.
- The VIPS cameras share most
of the features of the dome cameras such as 360 degree rotation,
preset positions and tours etc. together with a powerful optical
zoom. They can in fact be mixed and matched with dome cameras on the
same system using the same controllers.
- One of the downsides with
dome cameras is keeping the dome clean. Sunlight is refracted around
the dome and can impede picture quality even with a clean dome. The
VIPS cameras have a flat glass so they do not suffer with the same
problem and as an added bonus, they also incorporate a wiper. The
camera can be pointed upwards when it is raining to clean the glass
and avoid the need for a site visit.
- The VISTA VIPS Cameras have
proven to be the ideal solution for Tonyrefail Comprehensive School.
Our competitors who specified dome cameras lost out because they
would not have resolved the problem of obtaining good images at night.
- Our policy has always been
to listen carefully to our customers needs and specify solutions that
will address those needs. If those needs cannot be fully met the
customer should be informed of any limitations and any compromise
should be their decision to make based on the facts available.

DOMESTIC
INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEMS
AND
INSURERS REQUIREMENTS
Insurers requirements for
Domestic Intruder Alarm Systems can easily be misunderstood which can
lead to cover being invalidated. Policies might well contain
conditions such as:
A
particular type or grade of alarm.
Installation
and maintenance by SSAIB or NSI installer.
Full
setting of the alarm when the property is left unattended.
A
Monitored Alarm.
It is important to understand
what is meant by any of the above.
A
particular grade of system might refer to the standard to
which the system is installed and maintained. A system which is not
maintained by an SSAIB or NSI company is classed as un-graded.
Maintenance
means that a current maintenance agreement must be in force
which includes routine inspections and the availability of emergency
service and repairs. A certificate should be issued which shows the
system is subject to a maintenance agreement.
Full setting
of the system when the property is left unattended means a claim
might be rejected if the system was not set. This underlines the need
for an event log which proves it was set at the time.
A
monitored alarm is a system which is monitored by an approved
alarm receiving centre and might mean there is a requirement for
police response.
The inclusion of any other form
of communication device such as a voice communicator or text
messaging, e-mail etc. does not qualify for monitored system status
for insurance purposes.
It is essential to be sure that
your system meets fully with your insurers requirements or you might
not be insured.
It is a sad fact in this day
and age that a purchaser of a new home which was supplied with an
alarm system installed might be unwittingly un-insured for theft. You
might well assume that your new home which has certificates for just
about everything is fitted with an approved alarm for insurance
purposes. Many purchasers of new homes call us in because they cannot
get a faulty system attended to. The sad fact is that in most cases
the systems do not comply with the requisite standards. They usually
use ungraded equipment which means a complete upgrade of the system
if there is an insurance requirement for an alarm system.

requirements for Intruder Alarm Systems can be found at www.riscauthority.co.uk
ELECTRIFIED
SECURITY FENCES - A COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
Our
customers who have had PulseSecureTM Perimeter Security Systems
installed have all commented at a later date that it is one of the
best decisions they have ever made.
We had just completed an
extension to a system for a caravan dealer due to an acquisition of
an additional adjoining yard area. The customer commented that
the cost of the original system more than a year ago combined
with the cost of extending it equated to paying a security guarding
company for just six months.
He went on to say that his
original projections included the cost of the security guard and the
savings he had made helped to finance the expansion of his
business. He also stated that he was extremely pleased
with the performance of the system and with the service he had received.
When
calculated over a ten year peiod, the cost savings equate to a
massive 95%
There is no doubt that
PulseSecureTM provides the best available solution for protecting
yards and compounds etc.
The plain fact of the matter is
that most security systems rely on a response. But who
responds and how long does it take?
The PulseSecureTM system
provides both a major physical and formidable psychological
deterrent. Most would be intruders will not even attempt to breach
the perimeter as the thought of receiving a short, sharp painful
shock is enough to keep them out. However, should some brave (or
stupid) soul decide to have a go, shorting together or cutting fence
wires will generate an audible alarm which can also be remotely
monitored and interfaced with CCTV.
The PulseSecureTM system DETERS
and DENIES before it detects so the reliance on response is a last
resort and not the first line of defence.

IN
TO OUR THIRTY SECOND YEAR
Despite all of the doom and
gloom with economy and the high number of business failures we have
entered our thirty second
year with a vengeance. When times are hard, most people seek to find
the best value for money. By keeping our overheads down and
constantly striving for better efficiency without compromising on the
quality of the equipment we select we are able to offer the best low
cost fully comprehensive maintenance available. The purchase and
rebuilding of our premises has lead to much lower costs when compared
to renting so apart from the practicality
of being able to incorporate a showroom, we are able to keep our
costs down which helps to offset the massive rise in fuel costs.
We have also developed our own
bespoke computer system which allows us to keep records and print out
specifications, quotes and invoices etc. Developing it ourselves in
house saved a massive outlay and ongoing charges with the flexibility
to quickly comply with changes in requirements to comply with
standards and changes in the VAT rate etc.
The number of callers to our
premises has increased dramatically with many seeking help because
they can no longer get service from their original installer. No
matter what the circumstances are, we always endeavour to help
without just automatically booking a call.
HELP
LINE
People tell us that they hate
making phone calls (often at premium rates) which are answered by
machines and they are asked to press buttons for this and that and
end up going around in circles. If they are lucky enough to
eventually speak to a human being they cannot give any advice about
their problem, they can book a call and send an engineer. Even if the
system is under warranty or subject to a maintenance contract, the
call can be charged where the verdict is user error.
Our approach is different. In
order to keep costs down (and ultimately our charges) we do our best
to resolve your problem without a call. If you need further advice we
will even get an engineer to call you back. If for example, you want
to change your alarm code or carry out any other user functions about
which you are unsure, we strive to do this over the phone so you are
not faced with unnecessary charges.
PULSESECURETM
INDEPENDANTLY JUDGED UK'S MOST SECURE
Harper Chalice's PulseSecure
PROTECTOR HVLV perimeter security system was recently judged to be
the UK's most secure.
In independent trials at the
end of 2010 the PulseSecure PROTECTOR Enhanced fully monitored
electrified power fencing system was confirmed as the most secure and
stable technology of its kind on the market.
During the rigorous assessments
which took place over an 8 month period on a rough weather test site,
no other electrified power fencing systems matched Harper Chalice's
or achieved a comparable performance for detection or freedom from
false alarm.
Harper Chalice PulseSecure
technology and FenceSecure detection technology are significant
improvements on other power fencing perimeter security systems. They
are better, quicker, neater, easier to install, more reliable and
secure than other advanced perimeter security systems, which is why
they are winning market share and being used to ensure enhanced
protection at critical sites across the UK and globally.
